Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 has sentenced 23-year-old Suliaman Suba Kanu to 12 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges of larceny and domestic violence in the form of economic abuse.
The accused was arraigned on two counts: larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916, and domestic violence in the form of economic abuse contrary to Section 2 of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.
According to the particulars of offence on count one, the defendant, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 47 Robis Road, Calaba Town, stole the sum of forty thousand Leones belonging to Lamarana Jabbie.
Count two stated that on the same date and at the same location, the defendant economically abused the complainant, Lamarana Jabbie, with whom he was in a domestic relationship.
When the charges were read and explained to him, the defendant pleaded guilty to both counts.
The prosecutor, Sergeant 9811 Wilson, informed the court that the defendant was a first-time offender.
In his plea for mitigation, the convict appealed to the court for mercy and requested a lenient sentence.
After hearing submissions from the prosecution and considering the plea in mitigation, as well as the amount of money involved, Magistrate John Manso Fornah sentenced the convict to 12 months imprisonment on count one and 12 months imprisonment on count two.
The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently, including the period already spent in detention.
