On Friday, 24 April 2026, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Human Resource, James Musa, addressed police recruits at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy in Freetown.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to develop disciplined and professional officers, with the aim of strengthening operational readiness and improving service delivery across the country.
In his address, AIG Musa emphasized the importance of discipline, patriotism, and professionalism as core values expected of every police officer. He noted that these principles are essential in building a modern police service capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
He further explained that the purpose of his visit was to assess and identify recruits who will be selected for the Advanced Public Order Training (APOTS) at Samu. He described the training as a critical programme designed to equip officers with the skills needed to effectively manage public order situations and contribute to national security.
Also speaking at the session, Joe Kamanda-Bongay, Acting Director of Training, encouraged the recruits to remain committed to the core principles of policing. He stressed that integrity, discipline, and dedication to duty are vital in building public trust and confidence, particularly as the Sierra Leone Police continues its transition from a “force” to a “service.”
He added that the Executive Management Board is committed to selecting the most competent candidates for the advanced training programme, with the goal of enhancing overall delivery service.
ACP Kamanda-Bongay further urged the recruits to view the opportunity as both a privilege and a responsibility, encouraging them to represent the Sierra Leone Police with honour and distinction.
The session concluded with a renewed call for all recruits to uphold the highest standards of conduct as they prepare to take on more specialized roles within the Sierra Leone Police.
