A 45-year-old herbalist, Alhaji Yillah, has been granted bail by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after appearing on two-count charges of fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretences.

The charges are brought under Section 20 (1)(a) and Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on March 9, 2026, at Sheku Tamba Street in Koidu City, Kono Judicial District in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the accused allegedly fraudulently converted 32 carats of gold valued at Le 20,800. The gold had been entrusted to him by Komba Kanjama Suku Tamba for the purpose of making a ring.

The second count states that on the same date and at the same location, the defendant, with intent to defraud, allegedly obtained Le 15,000 from Komba Kanjama Suku Tamba by falsely claiming that he would make a gold ring for him and his two children, knowing the claim to be false.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.

The prosecutor, Inspector Mabel M. Trawallie Esq., served the defendant with a bundle of witness statements, which he acknowledged receiving.

Magistrate Jah granted the defendant bail in the sum of Le 50,000, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be Sierra Leonean residents within the court’s jurisdiction and must present valid identification. Bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The matter has been adjourned to April 20, 2026.
