Advancing healthcare delivery across Sierra Leone, the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby (PhD, MPH), formally unveiled a new CT scan machine with 64-slice imaging capabilities at the Kenema Government Hospital on Saturday, 11 April 2026.

The Minister also handed over keys to newly procured Ministry of Health staff buses and utility vehicles to hospital management. In addition, he launched a new 4D ultrasound machine as part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery across Sierra Leone.

During the ceremony, Dr. Demby officially presented the vehicles to hospital representatives, emphasizing that the initiative is intended to ease transportation challenges faced by health workers. He noted that improved staff mobility will enhance efficiency in patient care and contribute to better overall health outcomes.

The CT scan and ultrasound machines are expected to significantly improve diagnostic and treatment capacity at Kenema Government Hospital. The Minister explained that the equipment will not only benefit residents of Kenema but also patients from surrounding communities and neighbouring districts who rely on the facility for specialized medical services.

It may be recalled that last week the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, officially commissioned 10 new staff buses for healthcare workers in Bo, including five 50-seater buses and five 38-seater buses. The President also commissioned nine utility vehicles, a 128-slice CT scan machine, and a modern burns unit at Connaught Hospital developments the government says are aimed at transforming healthcare delivery nationwide.
