Mohamed Kamanda, a motorbike rider, has been sentenced to twenty-four months in Pademba Road Prison by Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2. He was convicted on a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, at the Parliament Building, Tower Hill, in the Western Area of Freetown, the defendant stole a Nissan Armada V8 Jeep with registration number MDR 001, valued at seventy-five thousand United States dollars, along with other assorted items valued at a total of one million eight hundred and twenty-seven thousand eight hundred and ninety Leones (Le 1,827,890), all property of Honourable Dixon Momoh Rogers.
When the charge was read and explained, the defendant pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, informed the court that the defendant has no previous criminal record and is a first-time offender.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Fornah noted that he had considered the prosecution’s confirmation that the defendant is a first-time offender, as well as the defendant’s plea for leniency. He further acknowledged that the defendant did not personally benefit from the stolen vehicle, which has since been returned to its rightful owner. However, the magistrate emphasized that the defendant had stolen the vehicle with the intention of selling it and had already taken steps toward that goal, which led to his arrest.
Taking all factors into account, the court sentenced Mohamed Kamanda to twenty-four months imprisonment, to be served in full of the date of the matter’s commencement. Additionally, the magistrate ordered that the two vehicle number plates, Exhibit D1-2, be restored to the complainant pursuant to Section 56(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024.
