The Hon. Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, has conducted an on-site inspection of ongoing construction works at the Freetown International Airport, as part of government preparations for the upcoming ECOWAS Heads of State meeting later this year.
During the visit, Minister Bangura observed the arrival of key construction materials designated for the development of a modern Congress Centre, hotel facilities, and Presidential Villas. These projects, currently underway in Lungi, are expected to significantly enhance Sierra Leone’s capacity to host high-level international events.
The Minister also toured the construction sites, assessed progress, and held a strategic meeting with the project contractors, FB Group. According to the company’s management, work is progressing steadily, with teams operating around the clock to ensure timely completion ahead of the regional summit.
“We are fully committed to meeting the project deadlines and delivering infrastructure that meets international standards,” FB Group representatives assured during the engagement.
The Congress Centre, hotel, and Presidential Villas initiative is a flagship project conceptualized by His Excellency, Julius Maada Bio, as part of a broader national agenda to address infrastructure gaps and position Sierra Leone as a competitive destination for tourism and global conferences.
Commending the pace and quality of work, Minister Bangura expressed appreciation to the contractors and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the successful delivery of the projects.
“President Bio’s vision is clear reducing Sierra Leone’s infrastructure deficit while creating an enabling environment for tourism and investment,” the Minister stated. “These developments are critical to enhancing our international profile and promoting economic growth.”
The completion of the Lungi projects is expected to not only support the hosting of the ECOWAS summit but also leave a legacy of improved infrastructure, strengthening Sierra Leone’s appeal as a hub for regional and international engagement.
