The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has issued a strong public warning about a growing wave of fraudulent activities targeting citizens seeking driver’s licenses, while reaffirming its official fee structure for all license categories.

In a public notice dated March 30, 2026, the Authority reported that individuals posing as intermediaries have been extorting money from the public under the false pretense of providing SLRSA-related services. The agency emphasized that it does not authorize any third-party payments and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

SLRSA noted that these fraudulent practices reflect broader challenges in public service delivery, where informal networks exploit gaps in information and access. By decentralizing services nationwide, the Authority is working to reduce such vulnerabilities and ensure that citizens can obtain legitimate services without interference.

The notice also provided a detailed breakdown of official driver’s license fees basic motorcycle and tricycle licenses (Categories A, A+, AA+): Le660. Mid-tier licenses (cars, trucks, heavy equipment): Le1,200 – Le1,750. Comprehensive all-category licenses: Le1,800

SLRSA clarified that these fees apply to both new applications and renewals, reinforcing transparency and preventing confusion that can be exploited by fraudsters.

The Authority further stressed the importance of obtaining official receipts for all payments, highlighting its commitment to accountability and integrity in delivery service. Citizens are encouraged to report any incidents of extortion through the designated contact numbers provided by SLRSA.

This development underscores the critical need for public awareness and institutional trust. As Sierra Leone modernizes its transport and licensing systems, protecting citizens from exploitation remains a top priority.

The Authority’s message is clear: access to driver’s licensing services should be straightforward, transparent, and free from unlawful interference.
