The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has officially commissioned Hillside Hotel, a state-of-the-art facility that marks a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
The commissioning ceremony was led by the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, who emphasized the ministry’s commitment to promoting cultural identity and fostering private sector-driven growth.
The hotel, developed by the Skaikay family, features 25 rooms, a swimming pool, a children’s playground, a gym, presidential suites, and a shisha bar facility designed to meet modern hospitality standards.
Minister Tunis praised the investment, noting that it aligns with the ministry’s “Year of Culture and Creativity” agenda. She reaffirmed the government’s support for private sector initiatives that contribute to national development.
“Hillside Hotel will enhance accommodation capacity, host large-scale events, and strengthen Kenema’s tourism appeal,” she stated.
Local authorities also welcomed the development, describing the hotel as a gamechanger that positions Kenema as “open for business” and capable of attracting and retaining visitors.
Paramount Chief and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Matthew Sahr Nyuma, commended the proprietor’s vision and called for policy incentives to further strengthen the hospitality industry.
The commissioning of Hillside Hotel reflects growing confidence in Sierra Leone’s tourism sector. The facility is designed to meet international standards, showcasing Sierra Leonean ingenuity while contributing to the country’s economic diversification efforts.
