Air Sénégal is set to resume direct flights between Dakar and Freetown starting in July 2026, reestablishing a vital air link along the West African coast. The return of this route follows a period of suspension and is expected to significantly improve travel between the two cities while enhancing regional and international connectivity.

The Dakar-Freetown route plays an important role in linking coastal destinations across West Africa. Its resumption will make travel between Senegal and Sierra Leone more convenient, supporting movement across neighboring countries and boosting regional integration.

Dakar serves as a major aviation hub, offering connections to destinations across Africa, Europe, and beyond. Passengers traveling through Dakar can access cities such as Paris, Casablanca, Bamako, Ouagadougou, and Abidjan. Reintroducing Freetown into this network allows travelers to include Sierra Leone in broader, multi-destination itineraries.

The renewed service encourages travel across multiple West African countries. Travelers can now combine visits to The Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Sierra Leone within a single journey. Previous route through Banjul highlighted the potential for multi-stop regional travel, a trend that continues to shape tourism in West Africa.

Air Sénégal is supporting its network expansion with an upgraded fleet, including modern Boeing 737 aircraft. These planes are well-suited for regional and medium-haul routes, enabling the airline to maintain consistent schedules and meet growing passenger demand.

Freetown serves as the gateway to Sierra Leone’s tourism sector, known for its beaches, cultural heritage, and natural landscapes. The return of direct flights will make it easier for international travelers to reach the country, reducing the need for multiple connections.

For Senegal, the route strengthens both inbound and outbound travel. Visitors to Dakar can now extend their trips to Sierra Leone, creating richer, multi-country travel experiences. Dakar’s international airport infrastructure supports these seamless connections.

Alongside the Freetown route, Air Sénégal is increasing frequencies on several existing routes. These changes provide greater flexibility and ensure smoother connections between regional and international flights.

The resumption of Dakar-Freetown flights reflects broader trends in West African aviation, where airlines are expanding routes to meet rising travel demand. Improved connectivity is making destinations more accessible and encouraging tourism growth across the region.

The return of direct flights between Dakar and Freetown marks a significant step in strengthening West Africa’s travel network. By improving access, expanding route options, and supporting multi-country travel, Air Sénégal is helping to create more connected and flexible travel experiences across the region.
