The Eastern Regional Police Command has formally responded to a request from the Cross-Section of the Voice of the Youth, Kenema, regarding police clearance and security support to stage a protest in Kenema.

The response was delivered on 25 March 2026 at the Office of the Regional Commander in Kenema, where the Regional Police Commander East, Mr. Francis Brima Meinday (AIG), engaged members of the group in calm and constructive dialogue.

During the meeting, Commander Meinday explained that the authority to grant approval for public protests does not fall under his mandate but rests with the Inspector General of Police. He advised the group to pursue appropriate and lawful channels to address their concerns.

The Commander also cautioned members against unauthorized actions that could disrupt public order, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established legal procedures.

Reinforcing the message, Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Kpulun urged the group to remain law-abiding and seek redress through proper authorities. Similarly, Regional Crime Officer East, Mr. Mohamed Hindolo Feika (ASP), stressed that due process must be followed at all times to maintain peace and security.

In response, the Chairman of Voice of the Youth, Mr. Suliaman Kamara, expressed appreciation for the professionalism and guidance of the police and assured that members would follow due process in line with national regulations.

The engagement concluded on a note of mutual respect and understanding, with police leadership reaffirming their commitment to upholding the law while guiding citizens toward lawful means of expression.
