Magistrate Solomon Christian Kekurah of the York Court in the Freetown Peninsula has sentenced Fatmata Kamara to two months’ imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to two counts: public insult and provocation, and insulting conduct toward a magistrate.

She received one month imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, 5th March 2026, at New Jersey Junction, Second Welding Shop, Goderich, Fatmata Kamara publicly insulted Magistrate Aaron Bangura with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

On the second count, the prosecution stated that on the same date and at the same location, the convict used abusive language against Magistrate Bangura with similar intent.

Court records revealed that the complainant had gone to purchase food from the convict. After waiting for some time without being attended to, he urged her to serve him, explaining that he was in a hurry. The convict reportedly responded rudely and used abusive language. Despite being cautioned by the complainant and others present, she continued her conduct.

The complainant eventually left without being served, stating that he had been ridiculed.

When questioned by the court, Fatmata Kamara said she was unaware that the complainant was a magistrate. In response, Magistrate Kekurah asked whether she needed to know a person’s status before showing respect.

In delivering his ruling after the convict pleaded for mercy, Magistrate Kekurah described her conduct as disrespectful, insulting, and provocative, noting that her behaviour was directed at a citizen serving in the capacity of a sitting magistrate.

Lawyer Quadic Bangura Esq represented the complainant, while the convict was unrepresented in court.
