The Chief Clerk of the CDIID and Communications, Media, and Community Relations Officer at the Motema Police Divisional Headquarters in Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District, Peter Ndapi, has appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone and philanthropists to provide electricity to the Motema Police Division.

Mr. Ndapi made this appeal while speaking on the radio program “Live Hit” on Radio New Song FM 91.3, where he provided updates on the operations of the Motema Police Divisional Headquarters.

He explained that despite the division’s efforts to maintain peace and security within its jurisdiction, officers are forced to use mobile phone flashlights to take statements from complainants due to the lack of electricity. He added that the situation is further worsened when classified documents must be taken outside the station for printing.

Mr. Ndapi also expressed frustration that electricity lines from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority pass directly over the police division, yet the facility remains without power. He questioned why nearby communities have access to electricity while the Motema Police Division remains in darkness, especially at night.

He, however, commended the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, for providing a mini filling station and a health clinic at the division. He appealed for further support, noting that “the reward for good work is more work.”

According to Mr. Ndapi, to emulate the leadership of the Inspector General, the division has relocated the former Manbudu checkpoint to a new site. The new location has been supported with solar streetlights provided by the Chairman of the Kono District Council, Augustine Sahr Sheku, for which the division expressed gratitude.

He further revealed that construction of a twelve-room police quarters at the relocated checkpoint is ongoing. To strengthen community policing, the division has also conducted school outreach programs, including quiz and debate competitions, awarding certificates and prizes to participating schools during its end-of-year activities. These initiatives, he said, have been widely commended by stakeholders for improving relations between the police and the communities they serve.

In conclusion, Mr. Ndapi thanked the newly transferred Local Unit Commander of the Motema Police Division, Chief Superintendent Alimamy Sesay, for sustaining the progress made by his predecessors, describing him as an epitome of development.
