Tourism Ministry Engages Russian Delegation on Cultural and Educational Cooperation

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs hosted a high-level meeting with a visiting Russian delegation to explore opportunities for cultural exchange and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Russia.

The delegation visited the Ministry through the Office of the Vice President and was accompanied by Member of Parliament, Hon. Sahr Emerson Lamina.

During the engagement, Hon. Lamina expressed appreciation for the visit and described the meeting as an important opportunity to explore areas of collaboration between the two countries. He noted that discussions focused on strengthening cultural ties through exchange programmes, including a presentation on Russian culture and dialogue on potential partnerships that could benefit both nations.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Natalia Krasvoskaia highlighted the work of the Center for Public Diplomacy in promoting cultural diplomacy and strengthening dialogue between Russia and African countries. She explained that the organization facilitates youth and women’s dialogue initiatives, educational exchanges, and broader cultural programmes across the continent.

Krasvoskaia also revealed plans to expand the organization’s presence in Africa, including the possibility of establishing a representation office in Sierra Leone. She said the move would help deepen cooperation in areas such as education, science, technology, and culture.

Responding on behalf of the Ministry, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the Government of Sierra Leone’s openness to partnerships that support tourism and cultural development.

The Permanent Secretary, Judith C. Jones, provided an overview of the Ministry’s mandate and its ongoing programmes, while the Director of Tourism, Travel and Exchange Programmes, Mohamed Jalloh, highlighted the Ministry’s work over the years and identified potential areas for collaboration.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing appreciation for the constructive engagement and optimism about strengthening cooperation between Sierra Leone and Russia in the areas of culture, tourism, education, and exchange programmes.
