Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on Thursday hosted prominent Islamic leaders and organisations for an Iftar dinner at his residence on Spur Road in Freetown. The gathering formed part of activities marking the holy month of Ramadan and brought together clerics and leaders from key Islamic bodies across the country.

Beyond the evening meal, the meeting highlighted the longstanding role of Islamic leaders in Sierra Leone’s national life. For decades, Muslim clerics and organisations have served as influential voices on issues of peacebuilding, governance, and national cohesion. They have often acted as mediators during periods of political tension and community disputes.

Participants used the occasion to emphasise the importance of religious tolerance and cooperation among Sierra Leone’s diverse communities.

Islamic leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working with the government and other faith-based organisations to maintain Sierra Leone’s reputation for religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

In his remarks, Vice President Juldeh Jalloh thanked Islamic organisations for their continued contributions to social stability and community development across the country. He noted that their guidance and engagement remain vital in strengthening national unity and supporting development efforts.

The gathering also comes at a time when conversations around representation and national leadership are gradually emerging ahead of the 2028 elections.

Sierra Leone last had a Muslim president during the tenure of Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, and some political observers believe that the Muslim factor could again feature prominently in future political calculations as parties begin shaping their long-term strategies.
