The National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA) has honoured the Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA) for its outstanding performance in procurement planning, recognizing the institution’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and compliance with national procurement regulations.

The recognition was presented during a brief ceremony at the NPPA headquarters in Freetown, where senior officials from both institutions gathered to celebrate the Ports Authority’s achievement in the timely submission, review, and validation of its Annual Procurement Plan in accordance with statutory requirements.

Speaking at the event, NPPA Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Fodie J. Konneh, commended the management of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority for demonstrating professionalism and dedication to effective procurement planning. He emphasized that timely and well-structured procurement plans are essential for ensuring value for money, minimizing waste, and strengthening public financial management systems across government institutions.

Mr. Konneh noted that procurement planning remains a key pillar in the implementation of the Public Procurement Act and encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate the Ports Authority’s example.

In his response, the Acting General Manager of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority expressed appreciation to the NPPA for the recognition, describing it as a testament to the hard work and collaboration of the Authority’s procurement and finance teams. He reaffirmed the Ports Authority’s commitment to upholding best practices and ensuring accountability in all procurement processes.

The award forms part of the NPPA’s ongoing efforts to promote compliance and strengthen procurement systems nationwide, as the Authority continues to work with MDAs to improve planning, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms.

The Sierra Leone Ports Authority plays a strategic role in managing and developing the country’s seaports, serving as a vital gateway for trade and economic growth.
