Nathan Almamy Silla, a businessman, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on charges of fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretences. The charges are under Section 20(i)(iv)(a) and Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, between 4 May and 4 July 2025, in Freetown, Silla allegedly including fraudulent conversion: Converted to his own use or benefit the sum of US$3,000 entrusted to him by Bai Mandumoi Coomber for the purpose of purchasing a Honda Pilot vehicle. Obtaining Money by False Pretences: obtained the same US$3,000 from Bai Mandumoi Coomber by falsely claiming he would buy the Honda Pilot vehicle, knowing this claim to be untrue.
When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.
Magistrate Fornah granted bail to the defendant in the sum of Le75,000, with a surety of the same amount. The surety must be a senior, responsible citizen residing in the Western Area of Freetown with a fixed address and must produce a valid identity card showing their residence. Bail approval is subject to confirmation by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to 25 February 2026 for further proceedings
