The President of the Police Wives Association, Matilda Doris Sellu, has provided a detailed breakdown of funds generated and spent on developmental projects across police barracks in Sierra Leone, as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability within the Association.
Speaking during an engagement with police wives in Bo, Madam Sellu explained that her nationwide tour is aimed at dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding funds raised during a fundraising event organized in Freetown. She emphasized that open communication and accountability remain central to her administration.
According to Madam Sellu, since assuming office in 2022, the Association has implemented several development initiatives, with particular focus on improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in police barracks across the country. These interventions, she noted, are designed to enhance living conditions for police families and promote healthier environments within barracks communities.
She disclosed that a total of Five Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand New Leones (NLe 525,000) was raised during a fundraising event held in December 2025 in Freetown. Of this amount, One Hundred and Fifty Thousand New Leones (NLe 150,000) was spent on feeding, accommodation, and transportation reimbursements for participants who attended a recent outing in the capital.
Madam Sellu further revealed that the remaining balance of Three Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand New Leones (NLe 375,000) is currently in the bank, pending approval and rollout of a proposed loan scheme. The initiative, she said, will benefit members across twenty-one police barracks, which are currently undergoing verification ahead of implementation.
Reaffirming her leadership philosophy, she stressed that transparency and accountability are not mere slogans, but principles demonstrated through action. She encouraged police wives to remain united and focused, while urging police officers to continue supporting their spouses in fulfilling their commitments within the Association.
Also addressing the gathering, the Police Regional Commander South, Andrew Mustapha Kamara, reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening service-led policing in Sierra Leone. He commended the leadership of the Police Wives Association and described the wife of the Inspector General of Police as a reflection of integrity, trust, and humility in service.
On behalf of his regional command, AIG Kamara assured Madam Sellu of his full support in advancing her vision to uplift and reposition the image and welfare of police wives nationwide.
In separate remarks, two Divisional Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) expressed appreciation for Madam Sellu’s leadership, describing it as selfless and focused. They praised her for remaining committed to her ambition of rebranding and strengthening the values and relevance of police wives in Sierra Leone despite challenges.
The engagement in Bo forms part of the Association’s broader nationwide outreach aimed at fostering unity, promoting accountability, and deepening developmental impact across police barracks throughout the country.
