As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, M.R. Distilleries has donated building materials and provided financial support to the Old Wharf Community to assist with an ongoing road construction project.
Presenting the donation, the Public Relations Officer of M.R. Distilleries, Mr. Mohamed Kamara, said the gesture was intended to give back to the community in which the company operates. He explained that the intervention reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting development initiatives both within and beyond its immediate operational areas.
Mr. Kamara emphasized that this was not the first time M.R. Distilleries had supported surrounding communities, assuring residents that the company’s management remains committed to contributing to meaningful development efforts across the country. He urged community members to make judicious use of the donated materials and funds to ensure the successful completion of the project.
He also called on residents to fully support the road construction exercise, stressing that community cooperation is essential to achieving sustainable development.
The Honourable Member of Parliament for Constituency 114, Dr. Unpha Sorie G. Koroma, commended the management of M.R. Distilleries for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He encouraged other institutions operating within and outside the Old Wharf Community to emulate the positive example set by the company.
According to Dr. Koroma, the completion of the road project will significantly enhance community development by improving accessibility and safety.
“This road will play a pivotal role in promoting development and ensuring safety, especially during emergencies such as fire outbreaks,” he said.
He further encouraged residents of Constituency 114 to embrace and safeguard development initiatives, noting that government alone cannot meet the needs of every community simultaneously. He added that partnerships with responsible corporate institutions, such as M.R. Distilleries, are crucial to accelerating grassroots development.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, the Chief of the Old Wharf Community* expressed profound appreciation to M.R. Distilleries for its continued support. He also thanked the Member of Parliament for consistently standing with the community in times of need, as well as other stakeholders who have contributed to the welfare of residents.
The Chief described the road project as timely, noting that once completed, it would boost economic activities, ease movement, and open up the community for further development.
