The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recorded a significant legal victory in its continued fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.

On January 21, 2026, the High Court of Sierra Leone, presided over by Honourable Justice Alusine S. Allieu, convicted Mr. Frederick Caulker, an employee of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), for the misappropriation of public funds.

Mr. Caulker was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment, reflecting the gravity of the offence. The court found him guilty of misappropriating the sum of One Hundred Thousand New Leones (NLe 100,000), an act that constituted a serious breach of public trust and violated the principles of accountability expected within Sierra Leone’s financial sector.

The prosecution, led by the Anti-Corruption Commission, presented compelling evidence that clearly established Mr. Caulker’s culpability. The case underscored the ACC’s resolve to combat corruption and hold accountable individuals whose actions undermine public confidence and economic stability.

Reacting to the judgment, an ACC spokesperson described the conviction as a strong signal of the Commission’s commitment to eradicating corruption across all sectors.

“This conviction demonstrates our unwavering determination to ensure that misappropriation of public funds is not tolerated. The ACC will continue to pursue and prosecute anyone found engaging in corrupt practices,” the spokesperson said.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Allieu emphasized the far-reaching consequences of corruption, noting that the misuse of public resources intended for national development erodes trust in both financial institutions and government entities. He stressed that corruption remains a major obstacle to national progress and must be addressed with firmness.

The judge further warned that employees in the banking and public sectors must uphold the highest standards of transparency and integrity, as they are custodians of public confidence and financial stability.

The ACC reaffirmed that, in line with its strategic objectives, it will continue to collaborate with stakeholders across various sectors to promote ethical conduct, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and uphold the rule of law.

As Sierra Leone continues its pursuit of good governance and accountability, this conviction marks an important milestone in the fight against corruption. The ACC remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that individuals who misuse public funds face the full force of the law, contributing to a more transparent and accountable society.
