Elfrida E.F. Kebe, a prominent female student at the Fatima Campus of the University of Makeni (UniMak), has officially declared her candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in the 2026 student elections.
Kebe, the only female contender for the Secretary-General position, is competing against Alhaji Maligie Conteh of the Computer Science Department and Alusine Serry Kamara of the Law Society, both based at the Sylvanus Koroma Campus.
Running under the banner of the ruling Students’ Resurgence Movement, Kebe has received strong backing from her Mass Communication Department, where she is widely described as supportive, approachable, and student-focused.
A senior member of the Association of Mass Communication Students Union (AMCU) Interim Executive, who requested anonymity, praised Kebe’s commitment to student welfare. He cited her timely donation of Five Hundred New Leones (NLe 500), which significantly supported preparations for the department’s annual Meet and Greet event scheduled for Friday, 16 January 2025, at the Fatima Campus.
“She also purchased 10 giveaway tickets to be shared among students from other departments,” the executive member added.
Elizabeth Kamara, a Year Three student in the Mass Communication Department, said Kebe’s competence and dedication were the primary reasons for the department’s support.
“She is capable of delivering effective, student-centred representation,” Kamara affirmed.
One of the department’s Class Representatives, who also asked not to be named, endorsed Kebe’s candidacy and urged delegates from other departments to place public interest above political sentiment. “Let us prioritise the common good over propaganda,” he appealed.
Kebe, an alumna of Annie Walsh Memorial School, is noted for her academic excellence, having attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.69 for the 2024/2025 academic year, one of the key qualifications for the office she seeks.
She has also distinguished herself in public speaking, having emerged as a finalist in the 2024 Abdul Charles Mansaray Debating Championship, organized annually for Year One students by the department.
Speaking with confidence, Elfrida E.F. Kebe called on her supporters to remain calm and focused, expressing optimism about achieving victory through the Students’ Resurgence Movement.
“Eyes on the ball let us remain focused on achieving our goal,” she said.
The 2026 University of Makeni SRC elections are scheduled for Saturday, 17 January 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Students, Mohamed Wahab Kamara, has published a list of nine qualified candidates from eight departments contesting the positions of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary-General.
