The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura, has outlined ongoing tax reforms aimed at improving compliance, transparency, and service delivery during the Salone Civic Festival, organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) at the Youyi Building, Freetown on Saturday 13th December 2025.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Bangura emphasized the importance of tax education, particularly in schools, as well as the digitalization of NRA systems, noting that these initiatives are critical to building efficiency and public trust in the tax administration system.
She highlighted the implementation of automated payment systems through the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) for Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Goods and Services Tax (GST). She also spoke about improvements in customs clearance processes and the introduction of the Non-Tax Payment Mobile Application, all aimed at simplifying tax payments and enhancing revenue collection.
The Commissioner General acknowledged challenges related to electricity supply and internet connectivity, which affect both taxpayers and the Authority. She called for fair and consistent taxation and urged taxpayers to pay their fair share to support national development.
Mrs. Bangura further encouraged businesses to charge and remit GST using Electronic Cash Registers (ECRs) in order to ensure accuracy and accountability in tax reporting.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which the Commissioner General addressed public concerns and provided clarifications on various tax-related issues.
