Leone Rock Metal Group has reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety and environmental stewardship through two major capacity-building initiatives: a comprehensive fire extinguisher training conducted by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the awarding of Certificates of Merit in Environmental Management and Sustainability to the company’s Environmental Unit.
At the Technical Equipment Department workshop, the ERT delivered hands-on fire safety training designed to equip employees with essential knowledge and confidence in emergency response. The session covered the importance of fire safety awareness, the proper use of various fire extinguishers including Water, Dry Chemical, and CO₂
and practical application of the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep). Employees also learned key emergency response procedures, with emphasis on safe evacuation and timely communication during a fire incident.
Participants demonstrated their understanding through live simulations, showcasing their capability to respond effectively in real fire scenarios. Representatives from the HSE and Technical Equipment Department observed the exercise to ensure its quality and effectiveness. As part of the evaluation, the team recommended regular refresher training to strengthen staff readiness and reinforce the crucial message that “fire prevention is key.” Staff were reminded that preventing fire hazards requires ongoing commitment and vigilance in the workplace.
Beyond fire safety, the company celebrated another milestone in promoting sustainability. The Training Department, under the HSE Directorate in Pepel, honoured the Environmental Unit with Certificates of Merit in Environmental Management and Sustainability. The recognition follows the successful completion of a demanding theoretical and practical training program, designed to enhance environmental stewardship and compliance across company operations.
The achievement highlights the team’s dedication to advancing sustainable practices and elevating their expertise in environmental protection. With this specialized training, the Environmental Unit is empowered to implement impactful environmental strategies that support the company’s long-term sustainability goals.
Special acknowledgement was extended to the HSE Management for their consistent guidance and leadership in fostering environmental excellence. The management of Kingho Rail and Port (KRP) was also commended for cultivating a positive work culture that encourages employees to contribute meaningfully to both the company and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mr. Kabia, HSE Superintendent at Kingho Rail and Port, emphasized that the certificates symbolize more than the completion of training. “These certificates represent trust, appreciation, and a shared pledge for all,” he stated, applauding the Environmental Unit for its continued dedication to protecting the environment and promoting eco-friendly practices.
Leone Rock Metal Group remains fully committed to aligning with government standards and environmental regulations. Through continuous training, employee empowerment, and responsible operations, the company aims to set a new benchmark for safety and sustainability within Sierra Leone’s industrial sector.
