Staff and management of Radio New Song, operating in Bo, Kono, and Makeni, celebrated the station’s 22nd anniversary with a series of events, including a friendly football match, a social night, and thanksgiving service.
The football match, held at the newly refurbished Bo Coronation Field, featured a contest between members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) in Bo and Radio New Song staff and management. The final score was Radio New Song 3, SLAJ 1.
The social night, hosted at the New Harvest Global Ministries Mega Feast Auditorium in Messima, Bo, featured entertainment from gospel artists across Sierra Leone. Awards and certificates of recognition were presented to past and present station managers for their visionary leadership and dedication, accompanied by medals and statements from various dignitaries.
Representing the proprietor, Rev. Dr. Shodankeh Johnson, and the Global Team Leader of New Harvest Global Ministries, Pastor Daniel James Beahai, expressed delight at the anniversary celebrations. They highlighted that the station’s primary mission “Reaching out to the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through songs, messages, sermons, and prayers” remains unchanged. Pastor Beahai commended the staff for their tireless work and encouraged them to continue, noting, “The reward for good work is more work.”
Tagie Juliana Koroma, the first station manager when the station was known as Radio Trinity, shared her emotional journey, recalling the humble beginnings of the station in a room initially meant as a bathroom along Old Railway Line in Bo. She expressed joy at seeing the station grow, giving rise to branches in Kono and Makeni.
The president of the radio’s fan-based group, Sallay Kargbo, praised the family-like nature of the supporters’ network and urged others to join, appreciating the station proprietor for giving national recognition and support to Radio New Song.
At the thanksgiving service, Apostle John Papani Kargbo, a product of Radio New Song, delivered a sermon on “How to Maintain Favour Upon Favour” (1 Kings 18:18, 46), emphasizing that maintaining God’s favour requires optimism, prayer, and consistency. He highlighted the station’s growth over the years, with offices now in Bo, Kono, and Makeni, and plans underway for a branch in Waterloo.
Apostle Kargbo congratulated the staff and management for their dedication and reminded them that the station has played a key role in shaping the media landscape and their personal achievements.
