Sheku Turay, a businessman, made another appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on a charge of Fraudulent Conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on Friday, 29 August 2025, at Action Aid Drive, Lumley, in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused allegedly fraudulently converted to his own use certain properties entrusted to him for safekeeping. These include one Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 mobile phone valued at Le 48,000, and one Tecno Camon 20 mobile phone valued at Le 3,500,
all amounting to a total value of Le 51,500. The items were said to have been entrusted to him by Abdulia Bundo, alias “Eastern Man,” for the purpose of safekeeping.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant 3379 Ballay T informed the court that the matter is being prosecuted by the state. The accused was not legally represented at the time of the proceedings.
Magistrate Fornah stated that after reviewing all the evidence presented by the prosecution both factual and formal as well as the exhibits tendered, and after considering the defendant’s caution statement, he is satisfied that sufficient evidence has been provided to connect the accused to the offence charged.
He therefore committed the matter to the High Court for trial. The magistrate ordered that the accused’s bail conditions remain in effect pending his appearance before the High Court.
