SLRSA Closes Dozens Of Unregistered Garages In Freetown

 After Months of Defiance by owners of Garages to register their garages with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) in line with the Road Traffic Act of 2007, the SLRSA on Monday 14/6/2021 commenced the closure of dozens of Garages illegally operating in the western Urban

The operation was led by the Executive Director Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh and his Deputy, Mr. James Bio, commenced along Peninsular Road, Goderich, covered Lumley, Wilkinson Road, up to Brookfield’s.

Addressing observers of the operation, the Executive Director Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh disclosed that there were over 250 unregistered garages in the Western Area urban alone. The Executive Director disclosed that in spite of several efforts by the Authority through meetings, public notices and warnings to get garage owners to operate in line with the law, there had been no positive response.

Mr. Sannoh further disclosed that since the beginning of 2021 the Authority only registered thirteen garages. He assured the public that the operation would cover the whole country.

The operation will continue tomorrow along Wilkinson Road, Aberdeen, Murray town and Brookfield’s.

Members of the public have encouraged SLRSA inspection team to continue with the operation until all unregistered garages comply with the Law.
