Police Witness Testifies in Larceny Matter

The First Police Witness (PW1) Inspector Sheku Ghanda  attached to the Operations department Central Police Station has testified before Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Court No 1 in Freetown on the 14th June, 2021 at the Pademba Court Freetown in a matter involving accused person Abu Bakarr Nyangui.

The accused person is charged with two counts contrary to section 17 (1) (b) of the Larceny Act 1916 and count three fraudulent conversion of property contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the larceny Act 1916.

The accused person Abu Bakarr Nyangui appeared before Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Court No 1 in Freetown on the 14th June, 2021 at the Pademba Court in case larceny contrary to section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916, two larceny by servant contrary to section 17 (1) (b) of the Larceny Act 1916 and count three fraudulent conversion of property contrary to section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the larceny Act 1916.

According to police charged sheets, the accused person is charged with two counts charged. Count one larceny by servant. 

It is alleged in count one that the accused person on the 19TH April, 2021 at the Male Correctional Centre Pademba Road in Freetown, being a servant stole one hundred and fifty six (156) pieces of assorted foam mattresses, property of the government of Sierra Leone.

Testifying in court the witness said he can recall on the 20th April, 2021.

 He was on duty when he received a distressed call by ASP. John Bai Sankoh, who informed him that there is a suspected larceny reported at Kannoh check point.

 Mr Ghanda said he went with his team at the said place (Papa Base) at Pademba Road Freetown, where he met a man who is alleging to be driver of the said vehicle.

 He said he saw the impounded van and five mattresses. He said the impounded van and mattresses were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department Officers including the driver. He said the following day a statement was obtained from the driver and the accused person. There were no cross examination, the State prosecutor is Inspector I.S.Mansaray while Campbell, and M.S.Kargbo representing the accused person. The matter has been adjourned to the 21st June, 2021.
