Speaker Thomas Celebrates World Children’s Day in Parliament

The Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., has on Thursday 20/11/2025, joined world leaders to celebrate World Children’s Day, marked this year under the theme: “My Days, My Right.”

During the special sitting, school pupils filled the Chamber of Parliament, turning the historic well into a vibrant celebration of youth. In his address, Speaker Thomas welcomed the children to the gallery, saying their presence “sends a clear message: your voices matter.” He reminded the young guests that they are the nation’s most important stakeholders and that the day’s theme affirms every child’s right to participation and a future shaped by their own dreams.

He further informed that Parliament would host a National Children’s Dialogue at 2 PM in Committee Room One, co‑organised with relevant parliamentary committees. The event will bring together the Health, Gender, and Social Welfare committees, among others, to discuss issues affecting children.

The Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Hon. Abdul Sulaiman Marray- Conteh also extended a warm welcome, announcing that a special celebration would follow in Committee Room One with selected committees.

Opposition Deputy Leader 1, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma joined the occasion, describing the children as the nation’s future leaders. He urged them to take education seriously, noting President Bio’s Free Quality Education programme, whilst reminding pupils of their responsibility to study and succeed.

The day highlighted Parliament’s commitment to giving children a platform and ensuring their rights are heard at the highest level of governance.
