During the ongoing three-day retreat organized by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, themed “Enhancing Quality Service Delivery in the Transport Sector,” the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) was celebrated for its remarkable achievement as the best-performing institution in the Ministry’s Performance Tracking Index for two consecutive years.
This recognition was announced during a presentation on Public Sector Leadership in a Changing World, delivered by the Ministry.
The report highlighted that the Performance Tracking Initiative for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) is designed to ensure the effective implementation of government priorities. It further emphasized the importance of measuring, tracking, and reporting institutional progress to better respond to the needs of citizens.
In his keynote address, titled “One Transport Sector,” the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Alhaji Fanday Turay, reaffirmed the critical role of the SLPHA as the gateway to Sierra Leone’s economy.
He commended the Director General of SLPHA, Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio, for the significant reforms taking place at the Freetown Port, noting that these improvements reflect strong leadership and commitment to progress.
Minister Turay encouraged the Authority to sustain its collaborative and developmental initiatives, stressing that the quality of services at the port shapes how the world perceives Sierra Leone through trade, tourism, and maritime operations.
The retreat continues and will conclude on Friday, 21st November 2025.
