Mohamed Massaquoi, also known as “Kokomani,” was sentenced to 100 years in prison on Monday, November 17, 2025, by Justice Mark Ngegba after being found guilty of multiple serious offenses, including robbery and the unlawful possession of firearms.

The 45-year-old convict faced charges in connection with a violent robbery spree and illegal possession of weapons. He was arraigned on four counts: conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravation, robbery with aggravation, possession of firearms without a license, and other related offenses all of which are contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the indictment, between July 21 and 28, 2025, Massaquoi conspired with unknown individuals to commit robbery with aggravation in Freetown. On the same dates, he and his accomplices allegedly robbed Mohamed Marrah and Finda Kamara, taking a Techno Spark 7 mobile phone, an Itel mobile phone, a DVD player, and other assorted items, totaling a value of NLe 6,300.

Additionally, Massaquoi was found in possession of two AK-47 rifles without any lawful authority, which led to the charge of unlawful firearm possession.

Upon reading the charges, Massaquoi pleaded guilty to all four counts. During the proceedings, State Counsel A. Jalloh presented a brief summary of the case, informing the court that the defendant had robbed the victims and was arrested in possession of firearms and ammunition.

In his allocutus (final statement), Massaquoi expressed remorse, claiming that he had been under the influence of drugs at the time of the robbery. He also pleaded for mercy, stating that he had recently converted to Christianity.

In his submission, State Counsel A. Jalloh requested the maximum sentence due to the seriousness of the crimes, and further asked that the firearms and ammunition be handed over to the Small Arms Commission for destruction.

Justice Mark Ngegba, in delivering the sentence, imposed 10 years imprisonment for the charge of conspiracy to commit robbery, 40 years for robbery with aggravation (on two counts), and 10 years for the unlawful possession of firearms, bringing the total sentence to 100 years. The sentences will run concurrently.
