The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, H.E. Kenyeh Barlay, together with the ECOWAS Resident Representative, H.E. Amb. John Azumah, has officially handed over the Wai Cross-Border Market project site for construction in Sorogbema, Pujehun District.
The project is expected to boost trade, empower border communities, and strengthen regional integration. The handover ceremony marks a significant milestone in the implementation of this key initiative under the ECOWAS Regional Market Development Programme, which seeks to promote regional trade and economic cooperation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Barlay highlighted the project’s importance in driving economic growth and development. “This project will not only boost trade but also empower border communities and strengthen regional integration,” she said.
Ambassador Azumah echoed these sentiments, describing the project as a step toward realizing ECOWAS’ vision of a borderless region. “The Wai Cross-Border Market project is a concrete example of ECOWAS’ commitment to promoting regional integration and economic development in West Africa,” he noted.
The market’s construction is expected to create jobs, increase trade activities, and improve the overall economic well-being of residents in the region. Once completed, the Wai Cross-Border Market will serve as a major hub for commerce and cross-border exchange.
