Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura, renowned for his dedication and hard work, has earned a reputation as one of the most diligent judicial officers presiding over cases at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 8 in Freetown. Magistrate Samura is known for his tireless work ethic, handling a wide range of cases assigned to his court.
Magistrate Samura has presided over high-profile drug cases, particularly those involving allegations of illicit drug possession and the manufacturing of chemical substances. He is also responsible for adjudicating serious criminal cases, including theft, robbery, larceny, and murder.
In one notable case, Magistrate Samura sentenced a mason to eight months in prison for stealing building materials. He also escalated a significant theft case involving a cement factory to the High Court, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring justice is served in complex matters.
In addition to criminal cases, Magistrate Samura has successfully handled complex civil matters, particularly family disputes and property ownership cases. One of the most notable cases involved thirteen family members who clashed in court over the ownership of an estate property. Magistrate Samura was able to swiftly resolve the matter, showcasing his expertise in handling intricate family and property disputes.
A Track Record of Service Across Districts.
Before his current assignment at Pademba Road Court No. 8, Magistrate Samura served at the Kailahun Magistrate Court, where he presided over cases in all three courts in the district. He served in Kailahun for just over a year before relocating to Pademba Road Court No. 4, where he handled several cases before being transferred to his current post at Court No. 8 on 2 June 2025.
Upon his transfer to Court No. 8, Magistrate Samura inherited 136 files, which he has efficiently processed. Some cases have been committed to the High Court for further trial, while others were cautioned and discharged. He continues to preside over cases presently assigned to him, maintaining a steady pace of case management.
Magistrate Samura is known for his guidance and mentorship of lawyers. During proceedings, he often provides valuable advice and direction to attorneys on the application of legal provisions in their cases. After court sessions, many lawyers seek him out in his chambers for clarification on specific legal provisions, and Magistrate Samura generously offers explanations and guidance on how to approach their cases.
Despite his impressive workload, Magistrate Samura faces challenges in his role. The court where he presides is relatively small for the volume of cases he manages, and he has only three police officers to assist with criminal cases. Nevertheless, he continues to serve with dedication and resolve.
Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura has been an invaluable asset to the Sierra Leone Judiciary. His ability to manage and resolve cases efficiently has earned him the respect of both lawyers and litigants who appear before him. His commitment to upholding justice and supporting the legal community has made him a beloved figure in the legal field.
