Justice Alfred T. Ganda of the High Court, located on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown, has reserved his ruling on the bail application of Abdul Kpaka, who is facing charges in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Sia Fatu Kamara.
During Friday’s court proceedings, the defense requested a decision on the bail application that had been filed four months ago, highlighting the delays that have hampered the high-profile case. Justice Ganda informed the court that he would deliver his ruling on the defendant’s bail request “in due course.”
The proceedings were also marked by yet another adjournment request from the prosecution. Lead state prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay requested additional time, citing the “unavailability of the next witness.” This delay continues a pattern of procedural setbacks that have plagued the case since it was moved to the High Court. Previous reports indicate that the trial has suffered significant delays, with defense counsel Emmanuel Teddy Koroma Esq. previously applying to dismiss the case due to the repeated failure of the prosecution to present witnesses or attend court.
Abdul Kpaka is indicted on two counts: murder and perverting the course of justice, in relation to the death of Sia Fatu Kamara in August 2024. He has been held on remand since his arrest, and previous judicial rulings have denied him bail due to the seriousness of the charges. The case has attracted significant public attention, fueled by harrowing testimony from the victim’s family and serious allegations of domestic abuse that emerged during the trial.
