The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has issued a call for applications for new and renewed licenses for Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (C&FAs) for the fiscal year 2026.
The NRA has set a deadline for existing C&FAs to submit their applications and emphasized the importance of complying with regulatory standards. Current licenses will expire on December 31, 2025, and the NRA urges agency owners to act promptly to avoid disruptions in their operations. This initiative is part of the NRA’s broader strategy to enhance the efficiency and reliability of customs operations, which are essential to the country’s trade and economic growth.
To apply for a new or renewed license, C&FAs must provide several key documents, including a valid Tax Clearance Certificate and a current certificate from the Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agencies-Sierra Leone (ACFA-SL). Additionally, applicants must present a financial bond guarantee from a recognized commercial bank, ensuring that they are financially capable of meeting their obligations.
The NRA has outlined specific criteria that applicants must meet, including the availability of a physical office space equipped with essential facilities such as high-speed internet and adequate office equipment. This requirement aims to ensure that all C&FAs can operate efficiently and effectively while adhering to modern standards.
The NRA is committed to maintaining transparency and offering support to stakeholders. Agency owners are encouraged to contact the NRA for any clarifications. The goal is to streamline the licensing process, avoid disruptions for compliant agencies, and ultimately benefit the economy by facilitating smoother trade operations.
All C&FAs are urged to prioritize their application submissions and ensure full compliance with the necessary requirements before the deadline. The NRA is confident that this initiative will improve the overall efficiency of customs procedures and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
