The Public Private Partnership (PPP) unit has over the weekend engaged staff of Moyamba district council, ward, councilors, ministries department and agencies, civil society groups, the media and other stakeholders to a two day training and concept development workshop on the design of public private community partnership using Design, financing building, operative and transfer.
Presenting the PPP concept principles and models, the program manager Dr. Patrick Sesay stated that with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) the unit in the office of the vice president was set up by an act of parliament in 2014 to promote, facilitate and streamline the implementation of PPP agreement by MDAs and local councils of the government of Sierra Leone. Explaining the overall objective of the training Dr. Sombie mentioned that, the workshop is to train and work with the Moyamba district council staff to develop a real life concept paper for the development of a public infrastructure that will address the most pressing need of Moyamba district council.
Dr. Sombie added that the concept paper must be gender sensitive with emphasis on employment creation for the youth in as much as to improve the quality of life for the people of Moyamba district. Stakeholders identify that there is a need for modern entertainment plaza in Moyamba district. After council core staff engaged on the collection of field data, met with key stakeholders and interested with opinion including the Paramount chief of Kaiyamba chiefdom Foday Momoh Gulama it was finally agreed on that the main lorry park is the most suitable point to erect the modern plaza.
