Foday Alimamy Yillah an OSD Personnel of the Sierra Leone Police was allegedly involved in the Hastings Land Saga few months ago that led to the death of one Alpha Kargbo alias (wan dada) was sent to prison by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba road court No1 in Freetown.
The accused Foday Alimamy Yillah made his second appearance in court and was arraigned on a count of Murder contrary to law.
According to the Indictment, the police alleged that the accused on Thursday 15 April 2021 at Hastings Village in Freetown murder Alpha Alimamy Yillah alias (wan dada).
Prosecution Witness 1 a Bike Rider also known as the deceases brother Saidu Kargbo in his evidence in chief before Magistrate Sahr Kekura recognized the accused and also the deceased as his elder brother.
He also recalled the date of the incident which was on Thursday 15 April 2021, adding that on that day he was at home with the deceased before his death when he received a telephone in respect of their land at Hastings.
The witness said base on that information, he was instructed by the deceased to visit the land which he did and that upon his arrival he met some people including some delta who ask him as to what he was doing on the said land and then reply that the land belong to his brother now deceased.
He added that upon his answer, he was arrested by the officers and put into their patrol vehicle.
“At about 15 minute whiles I was asking them to give me back my phone to call my brother (now deceased), I then saw my brother coming towards the scene. My brother also came to asked them as to why they arrested me, during that process the accused was behind the deceased with the OSD office with his gun, while my brother was talking on the phone I then told him to leave the scene immediately, which we did”, the witness narrated.
The witness continued that while they were about to leave the scene, he then recalled that his phone was been seized by one of the delta, they returned (witness & brother) to the officer to request back the phone.
According to the witness upon their return, the deceased asked the delta for the phone and that while they were arguing the accused Foday Alimamy Yillah shot the deceased on his left feet and he fell on the ground shouting.
“I was so afraid for my life,” witness said.
At this stage, the prosecutor ASP Ibrahim S Mansaray requested for an adjournment to have proper interview with the witness, while Lawyer M. S Kargbo was defending the accused in court.
The accused was remanded in prison and the matter was adjourned to 14 June 2021 for further testimony.
