The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) has commenced a thorough selection process for the 2026 postgraduate Commonwealth Scholarship Programme, interviewing promising Sierra Leonean applicants seeking this prestigious opportunity.

This meticulous process highlights the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and merit-based selection in awarding such distinguished international academic opportunities.

As the interviews began, Acting Student Secretary George A. Dambo addressed the applicants, emphasizing the highly competitive nature of the Commonwealth Scholarship. “This is not a handout but a competitive award granted to the most deserving candidates,” Mr. Dambo declared. He also warned against any form of bribery, reaffirming the Ministry’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption in scholarship selections.

In a motivational call to action, Mr. Dambo urged the applicants to view the scholarship as an opportunity to become agents of change. “The knowledge and skills you gain should be used to drive progress across various sectors and uplift your communities,” he encouraged.

Director of Higher Education, Emmanuel J. Momoh, also spoke to the applicants, urging them to remain focused on their academic goals if selected. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase Sierra Leone’s intellectual potential and commitment to national development,” Mr. Momoh said. “We expect you to work diligently, maximize this opportunity, and change the narrative about our country.”

As the selection process progresses, the Ministry is committed to identifying and nurturing Sierra Leone’s brightest minds. The Commonwealth Scholarship Programme is viewed as a valuable investment in the nation’s future, and the Ministry is determined to ensure that the most deserving candidates receive the opportunity to benefit from this prestigious award.

The outcome of the selection process is eagerly awaited, and the Ministry is expected to announce the successful candidates in due course. For now, the applicants remain hopeful, knowing that their hard work and dedication will be the key to unlocking their academic and professional dreams.
