The Acting Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohammed Gondoe, has announced that the organization is taking significant strides to bring its services closer to its esteemed members while improving the processing and payment of benefits. NASSIT is undergoing a major digital transformation to modernize its operations, which will enhance the efficiency of its services.

This announcement was made during the official launch of the 2025 edition of NASSIT’s Customer Service Week at the Julius Maada Bio Parade Grounds of the Sierra Leone Military at Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce, Freetown.

In his keynote address, Acting Director General Gondoe described the NASSIT scheme as a statutory public trust responsible for administering Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme. He explained that the creators of the scheme were determined to provide meaningful retirement benefits for employees and financial support for their dependents in the event of death.

Speaking on the theme “Mission Possible”, Mr. Gondoe reaffirmed NASSIT’s commitment to maintaining its position as a centre of excellence in providing quality service to its members. He noted that the organization has spent years working on the digitalization of its services to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

This transformation involves a comprehensive set of projects designed to modernize and streamline NASSIT’s operations, which will ultimately benefit both the organization and the nation. The following developments have been achieved so far:

NASSIT has completed a full upgrade of its ICT infrastructure, which has laid a strong foundation for seamless and secure operations. This new system reduces downtime and increases processing speed, ensuring more reliable and accurate operations. The data cleaning project ensures that all information is up-to-date and readily accessible, reducing errors and optimizing day-to-day operations.

The web-based ERP system, which is 98% complete, integrates critical functions such as Finance, Procurement, Stores Management, and Fleet Management into one unified platform. This integration promotes real-time data sharing across departments, eliminates operational silos, and enables more informed decision-making. These improvements lead to better resource management, enhanced accountability, and reduced operational costs.

Central to NASSIT’s mission is the efficient management of pension services for Sierra Leone’s workforce. The development of a web-based Pension Administration System (PAS), which is 99% complete, will transform pension operations. This system covers every aspect of pension management, from member enrolment to claims processing, and provides web portals and mobile apps for both active members and pensioners. The modernization will significantly reduce the time required to process claims and benefits, ensuring that members and pensioners receive timely services.

NASSIT is also in the process of implementing a Multi-Factor Biometric Registration System, which is currently at the bidders’ evaluation stage. This advanced biometric system will help register active members, beneficiaries, and pensioners using cutting-edge technology. The system is expected to go live by the end of 2025 and will enhance the accuracy and security of member data, reducing the potential for fraud.

These digital advancements not only improve NASSIT’s internal operations but also have broader implications for the entire country. Members will now be able to access NASSIT services with ease, using digital platforms from the comfort of their own homes.

The Acting Director General also mentioned that in the coming year, NASSIT will focus on providing services to the Armed Forces at various locations in the Western Area. He encouraged all members of the Armed Forces to take full advantage of this exercise to address any longstanding issues.

In conclusion, Mr. Gondoe expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Defense Staff and the membership of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces for providing NASSIT the platform to serve their members.

The Chief of General Staff of the Sierra Leone Army, Major General S. D. T. Ngagua, acknowledged that the exercise demonstrates the commitment of both NASSIT and the Sierra Leone Army to improve social protection services for the Armed Forces. He emphasized that resolving the soldiers’ concerns would help them retire with dignity after years of service.

He also expressed appreciation to the Director General of NASSIT and his team for providing the soldiers with the opportunity to better understand the concept of social security.

In his address, Brigadier General M. S. Senesie, President of the Mens Committee of the Sierra Leone Army, expressed confidence in the leadership of NASSIT, praising the professionalism of the administrators.

A workstation was established to service the members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and other visiting customers during the event.
