Footballer Jailed for Theft at Magistrate Court No. 1

A 29-year-old footballer, Abdul Sesay, was apprehended by Corporal 1298 Cecilia Thomas after stealing a mobile phone at Magistrate Court No. 1. The incident occurred when the defendant took the court clerk’s mobile phone, which was captured on CCTV. His image was shared with the police, leading to his identification.

The defendant returned to the court later with a boot for sale, where he was recognized by the court clerk. Sesay was arrested and charged with larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offense, on the 16th of September, 2025, at Magistrate Court No. 1, Pademba Road, Western Area in Freetown, Abdul Sesay stole a silver-colored Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, valued at 12,000 Leones. The phone belonged to Bakisa Massaquoi, the court clerk.

When the charge was read and explained to him, the defendant pleaded guilty.

The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Mabel M. Tarawalie.

Magistrate Jah, after hearing the case, denied the defendant bail and sent him to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to the 6th of October, 2025.
