As the world gears up for the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the women of Port Loko District are rising  not just to be heard, but to lead. With resilience, vision, and renewed determination, they are set to celebrate their role in shaping a better future for Sierra Leone.

From November 25th to December 10th, 2025, Port Loko will become a vibrant hub of recognition, empowerment, and advocacy  championing women’s contributions in governance and social transformation. At the forefront of this movement is the passionate and fearless Hon. Madam Rugiatu Neneh Turay SAT Koroma, a woman whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

Affectionately known as Neneh Turay, she is a pioneering advocate against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and a long-standing defender of women’s rights. As the President of Women in Governance, Port Loko District, Executive Director of the Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM), and Chairperson of the Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP), she has been instrumental in challenging harmful traditions, restoring dignity, and opening doors of opportunity for women and girls.

Her leadership is not only transformative  it is lifesaving. Through the establishment of safe spaces, capacity-building programs, and community-led advocacy, she has empowered countless women to become leaders, decision-makers, and champions of change. No longer silent or sidelined, the women of Port Loko are stepping into their power  and bringing others with them.

This year’s theme focuses on Recognition and Development not only celebrating high-profile change-makers but also the quiet heroines whose everyday acts of courage are reshaping families, communities, and futures. Their collective perseverance tells a powerful story: the women of Port Loko are not just participants in change they are architects of it.
