The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has successfully concluded a four-day refresher training program on Search and Rescue (SAR) and Radio Communication, held from September 2 to 5, 2025, at the Maritime Building in Freetown.
The training brought together 45 staff members from SLMA’s various operational locations, aiming to strengthen their technical capacity in maritime safety, navigation, and effective communication.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Emmanuel Lansana, reaffirmed SLMA’s commitment to continuous staff development. He also emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in sustaining such training initiatives.
Facilitators led intensive sessions covering navigation techniques, standard Search and Rescue (SAR) procedures, marine radio operations and use of pyrotechnic distress signals.
At the end of the training, all participants were awarded certificates of completion, acknowledging their successful participation and improved competencies.
According to SLMA officials, this initiative underscores the administration’s unwavering dedication to enhancing maritime safety, promoting communication efficiency, and aligning with international best practices in maritime operations.
