The Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., on Saturday, August 30, 2025, held a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Southern Region Police Command in Bo to address the growing concern over a recent spike in armed robbery incidents in the city and its surrounding areas.

Describing the rise in robberies as “worrisome,” Minister Lengor emphasized that such criminal activities pose a serious threat not only to the residents of Bo but also to national peace and security.

“This engagement is meant to get a firsthand update on the situation, assess the steps taken by the police so far, and ensure that investigations are conducted swiftly and perpetrators are brought to justice,” the Minister stated.

He also called on the police to adopt more preventive and intelligence-driven strategies, with a focus on restoring public trust and strengthening safety across the region. Concluding his remarks, the Minister underscored the importance of robust community policing, improved police–public relations, increased vigilance and intelligence gathering and swift operational responses to crime.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the police with logistical resources, training programs, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing law enforcement capabilities nationwide.

The meeting, held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Bo, was chaired by Southern Regional Police Commander, AIG Brima Kanneh, and attended by senior officers of the command.

Commander Kanneh provided a detailed briefing on recent security developments, including the armed robbery attack on the NASSIT Bo Regional Manager, and outlined several challenges the police continue to face.

Describing the Minister’s visit as “timely,” Kanneh revealed that the command has already rolled out strategies to accelerate investigations and strengthen crime prevention efforts.  “We are implementing stronger community engagement, enhancing rapid response capabilities, and maintaining high levels of discipline within the force,” he said. He further disclosed that the police are actively pursuing several notorious suspects believed to be involved in multiple crimes, including the high-profile attack on the NASSIT official. “We assure you, Mr. Minister, that we are committed to addressing armed robbery and all forms of crime in the region,” Commander Kanneh pledged.
