The launching of Productive Women Sierra Leone in Makeni over the week end has resulted in massive turn out by women in the district to join the non-partisan organization.
According to the women the organization is more profitable to them than working with political parties.
Over two thousand people conspicuously held a procession in welcoming the founders of the organization named as the Four Wise Men.
The Chief Executive Officer 2, Alhaji A.K. Sesay, informed the gathering that the organization was meant to consolidate support for women across the country as according to him the establishment of the organization has nothing to do with politics.
Addressing a jubilant crowd of elderly and young and women, the brain behind the formation of PWSL, Prince Coker who doubles as the Chairman of the All Political Parties Association (APPA), said his motivation to assist women is rooted from his late mother and not politically motivated.
He said as founders, they are knocking on doors using their personal resources to organize and cater for women across the country. He said now is not the time for politics but now is the time for women to progress with no strings attached.
Mr Coker said the membership has risen to three million having existed for one year.
He said his action to form such a group was borne out of his desire to assist women.
“The women should not be left out in terms of everything” he said.
They noted that through the organization a lot of women have already benefited.
“With the support of His Excellency President Maada Bio and the Vice President Juldeh Jalloh, more of them will benefit as soon as possible” Coker intimated.
He commended the government and the role played by Ambassador Bond Wurie who is a Special Representative of the President to the Progressive Women’s organization, noting that their open door policy has positively impacted the lives of women across the country.
He said that Productive Women Sierra Leone is grass root based and non-partisan with over eighty percent of the members being illiterate from hard to reach communities across the regions of Sierra Leone. Membership, he said, is free and not based on political, tribal or regional sentiments.
A member of the Productive Women Sierra Leone, Adama Koroma said the formation of this group has brought light at the end of the tunnel for them as single parents. She said that they are happy to get a new body of patriotic Sierra Leoneans to speak on their behalf and trying to respond to their concerns.
She expressed hope that the founder and team of concerned Sierra Leoneans would continue to bring more goodies for them such as the MUNAFU package and the forthcoming Hajj pilgrimage.
The organization is currently run by a board which is managing with the little resources they put together for administrative, transportation and other related expenditures for the progress of the organization.
According to sources Four million women are being targeted nationwide.
