One of Sierra Leone’s most decorated football clubs, Mighty Blackpool, finds itself on the brink of relegation after a disastrous season. The Tistas Boys, who proudly hold seven (7) league titles and four (4) FA trophies, are currently languishing in 15th position with 37 points, heading into a make-or-break final clash against Wilberforce Strikers.

It’s a shocking fall from grace for a club once feared across the nation. Now, with their top-flight status hanging by a thread, the big question looms large: Who’s responsible for this collapse?

Much of the club’s internal turmoil has centered around Rodney Michael, the man who once spearheaded Blackpool’s revival. Betrayed by key figures within the club, he stepped down earlier in the season. Though later convinced to return, his second coming has failed to rescue the team, even with huge winning bonuses on offer for both players and staff.

As the final matchday approaches, Freetown City FC, Kamboi Eagles, and Bullum Stars have already been officially relegated to Division One. One more club will join them, and the battle is fierce.

The cameras and attention this weekend will be focused on three decisive fixtures including Mighty Blackpool vs. Wilberforce Strikers. A do-or-die battle in the capital.  Abacha City vs. Bhantal FC, Abacha face the league runners-up in a high-pressure encounter.  Wusum Stars vs. Luawa FC, Wusum Stars need a win to stay safe.

Currently, Wusum Stars have 40 points, giving them a slight edge, but anything less than a win could spell doom if other results don’t go their way.

For a club with such a rich history and passionate fanbase, Mighty Blackpool’s current position is unthinkable. What was once a fortress of Sierra Leonean football has turned into a house divided, riddled with internal betrayal, poor performances, and mismanagement.

As the final whistle blows on the season this weekend, only one thing is certain: someone will pay the ultimate price, relegation.

The legacy of Mighty Blackpool is on the line. Will they rise to the occasion or become the latest casualty in a brutal Premier League campaign?
