Rtd. Guinean Colonel Sent to Jail

Accused person Rtd. Colonel  Emelia William appeared before Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Court No 1 in Freetown on the 4th June, 2021 at the Pademba Court, charged with five counts of obtaining money by false presence contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to police charge sheets, the accused person is facing five counts charge. It’s alleged on count one that the accused person on a date unknown between 1st September, 2020 and the 30th April, 2020 at Lumley in Freetown obtained the sum of Eight million three hundred thousand Leones (Le 8,300,000/00) from Alhaji Umaru Barrie by falsely pretending that, she will secure an American Visa for him and facilitate his travelling to the United States of America, knowing same to be false.

It’s alleged on count two that the accused person on the 8th September, 2021 at Wellington, Freetown, obtained the sum of seven million Leones (Le7,000,000/00) from Emmanuel Ndanema by falsely pretending that, she will secure an American Visa for him and facilitate his travelling to the United States of America, knowing same to be false.

Count three states that the accused person on a date unknown between 12th January, 2021 and 29th March, 2021 at Freetown obtained the sum of twenty six million, five hundred thousand Leones (Le 26,500,000/00) from Mariama Juldeh Bah by falsely pretending that, she will secure an American Visa for her and her daughter Ramatulai Barrie and facilitate their travelling to the United States of America, knowing same to be false.

Count four states that the accused person on date unknown between September, 2019 and March, 2021, at Freetown obtained the sum of four million Leones (Le4,000,000/00) from Claudia Joseph by falsely pretending that, she will secure an American visa for her facilitate her travelling to the United States of America, knowing same to be false and count five that the accused person on date unknown between 26th September, 2019 and 21st March, 2021 at Freetown obtained the sum of fourteen million and fifteen thousand Leones (Le 14,015,000/00) from Mariatu Bangura by falsely pretending that, she will secure an American visa for her and facilitate her travelling to the United States of America, knowing same to be false.

 The State prosecutor of the matter is Inspector I.S. Mansaray and sergeant 9155 D.Macarthy and there was no lawyer representing the accused person. The matter has been adjourned to the 10th June, 2021.
