The Parliament of Sierra Leone has unanimously approved Madam Jenneh Jabati as the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Finance II, following a constructive and supportive debate among Members of Parliament (MPs).
During the deliberations, Hon. Aruna Aaron Koroma, Deputy Opposition Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) and MP for Tonkolili District, commended Madam Jabati’s impressive professional background, particularly her decades-long service at the Bank of Sierra Leone. He expressed confidence in her ability to serve the nation effectively and urged her to carry out her duties with integrity, transparency, and fairness, especially in the equitable distribution of resources among ministries, departments, and agencies.
Hon. Umu Pyne, MP for Moyamba District, also praised the appointment, congratulating President Julius Maada Bio for selecting a highly competent woman for a key financial leadership role. She emphasized the need to support women in business and encouraged Madam Jabati to champion policies and programs that empower female entrepreneurs.
“Let us focus on improving the situation of women in business,” she said.
Hon. Abdul Kargbo, Leader of the Opposition, highlighted Madam Jabati’s solid educational and professional credentials. While expressing his support, he also urged her to be results-oriented and prioritize strategies that enhance national revenue generation.
“I pray for your success and assure you of our support,” he stated.
Wrapping up the session, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, described Madam Jabati as a well-qualified Sierra Leonean whose career at the central bank reflects dedication and competence. He also commended President Bio for his continued commitment to gender inclusion in governance.
Before her confirmation, Madam Jabati appeared before the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, where she expressed her readiness to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“I bring administrative skills, teamwork, integrity, and commitment to support the government’s agenda. I will work diligently with my superiors to fulfill the responsibilities of the Ministry,” she affirmed.
Madam Jenneh Jabati brings over 35 years of experience from the Bank of Sierra Leone, where she held top-level positions, including Chief Operating Officer and Head of Human Resources. She holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University, United Kingdom, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
Following her approval, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, extended congratulations and wished her success in her new role.
