Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon of Pademba Road Court No. 3 sentenced Brima Lamin to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 24th June 2025, at the Milton Margai construction site in Goderich, Freetown. Lamin was found to have stolen one 5×8-inch iron rod valued at Three Hundred and Fifty New Leones (Le350) along with other assorted construction materials, bringing the total value to Six Hundred New Leones (Le600).
The charge was read and clearly explained to the accused in court, and he immediately pleaded guilty. Lamin was not legally represented, and no formal plea in mitigation was made on his behalf.
However, he personally pleaded for mercy, asking the Magistrate to temper justice with compassion.
In her ruling, Magistrate Kallon acknowledged his plea and cooperation but emphasized the seriousness of theft, especially at construction sites, before sentencing him to six months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
This case underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against theft-related offenses and reinforces the message that such acts will be met with appropriate legal consequences.
