BRAC International has commenced a series of Safeguarding Standards Training sessions for its agencies, suppliers, and service providers. The first session was held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at BRAC’s head office on Samuel Banister Lane, Wilberforce, in Freetown.

Addressing dozens of participants, Julie Sia Musa, BRAC’s Safeguarding Manager, emphasized the organization’s strong commitment to protecting its people and resources from all forms of harm, harassment, and misconduct. She stated that BRAC operates under a strict safeguarding policy and code of conduct designed to ensure a safe and respectful working environment.

“Under no circumstances should BRAC staff or any party associated with BRAC cause harm whether physical, emotional, sexual, or cyber-related to any individual or group engaged with our programs,” said Musa.

She further stressed that all BRAC staff and affiliates are duty-bound to report any suspected misconduct, including but not limited to sexual harassment, abuse, exploitation, intimidation, bullying, violence, discrimination, neglect, or any other form of exploitation. Reports can be made to the appropriate authorities, and BRAC guarantees protection against retaliation for anyone reporting in good faith, in line with its whistleblower policy.

During the session, Musa also highlighted BRAC’s “Standards of Behavior,” which clearly outline the dos and don’ts expected from all personnel and partners. These standards are designed to foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and mutual respect.

BRAC is currently the largest microfinance institution in Sierra Leone, operating 42 branches across 12 districts. It provides inclusive financial services, particularly targeting women in rural and hard-to-reach communities. The organization currently employs nearly 1,000 people nationwide.

Participants at the training expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged to uphold the safeguarding standards set by BRAC. The training program is expected to continue in other regions across the country to ensure all BRAC service providers and partners are fully informed and compliant with safeguarding protocols.
