David Johnson and Jelika Conteh made their first court appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing seven charges related to illegal drug activities.
The charges include collection, possession, transportation, dealing in, and offering for sale of prohibited drugs without lawful authority offenses contrary to various sections of the National Drug Control Act of 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).
According to the particulars of the offense, on Tuesday, 13th May 2025, at the Mile 18 Police Checkpoint in Kambia District, Northern Province, the accused were allegedly found in possession of eighty-nine compressed parcels of Cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
Further counts allege that on the same date and location, the accused persons transported, dealt in, and offered the prohibited drugs for sale.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
State Prosecutor A.N. Taylor Esq. requested a short adjournment to confer with witnesses. In response, defense counsel A. Kamara applied for bail on behalf of the accused.
However, Magistrate Jah refused bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 26th June 2025.
