The Sefadu High Court presided over by the resident Judge Justice Albert Moody has on Tuesday 27th May, 2021 sentenced at least two former police officers to five years each imprisonment for sexual penetration.
Prior to his verdict Justice Moody maintained that owing to the time spent at the correctional centre whilst in remand coupled with the convict losing their job and respect he was obliged to hand down the aforementioned sentences in order to set precedent to avoid the reoccurrence of such menace.
He pointed out that few hours were enough for the police officers to have in their custody the suspects they brought in for absconding and harbouring but they instead kept the girls in their custody day and night thereby penetrating them.
According to the particulars of offence, the two convicts Michael Tamba Sandi and Christopher Ansumana Momoh Kpallu were guilty of sexual penetration contrary to section nineteen (19) of the sexual offenses Act 2012, Act number twelve of 2012 as repealed and replaced by section four sub-section A and three of the sexual offence amendment Act 2019, Act number Eight of 2019. The particulars of offence furthered that the two convicts on Thursday 12th December, 2019 at Sewafe town, Nimiyama Chiefdom – Kono District in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone engaged in the act of sexual penetration with underage girls that were in their custody as police officers by then.
Meanwhile in the same court Sulaiman Kamara was also sentenced to four years imprisonment for similar act. According to the particulars of offence, the convict on the eight day of March, 2020 at Kono in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone engaged in an act of digital sexual penetration otherwise known as fingering with a six year old girl name withheld.
Isiaka Kabba was also sentenced to four years imprisonment for the aforementioned offense. The particulars of offence stated that the convict Isiaka Kabba on the 21st day of June at Kono in the Eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone sexually penetrated an underage girl name withheld.
