In a decisive step toward proactive policing and grassroots engagement, the newly appointed Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Bo West Division, Chief Superintendent of Police Joseph Honor Kamara, on 8th June 2025, convened his first strategic field meeting in Baomahun Village. The session brought together senior police officers, community leaders, and key representatives from the Office of National Security (ONS), including Bo District Coordinator Mr. Suahibu Koroma.

The engagement marks the beginning of LUC Kamara’s community-oriented leadership approach, aimed at fostering mutual trust, enhancing intelligence sharing, and reinforcing security patrol strategies in Bo West.

Addressing attendees, Chief Superintendent Kamara underscored the importance of inclusive, people-centered policing, stressing that effective security management must go beyond enforcement to embrace dialogue, partnership, and accountability.

“Our approach will be inclusive and people-centered. We will not wait for problems to escalate. Instead, we will engage, listen, and act in partnership with the people,” he stated.

The meeting focused on pressing local security concerns, including youth-related disturbances, petty theft, inadequate surveillance, and delayed incident reporting. Participants brainstormed strategies to boost police visibility, establish early warning systems, and encourage community-led peace initiatives.

Local chiefs and residents welcomed the LUC’s direct engagement, describing the initiative as timely and hopeful.

“This is the kind of leadership we’ve been yearning for,” said a village chief. “The fact that the commander came to our doorstep to hear from us is a sign of hope. We are ready to work with him.”

Mr. Suahibu Koroma of the ONS emphasized the need for integrated security cooperation, noting that national stability hinges on strong local partnerships. He encouraged all parties to remain dedicated to peacebuilding and vigilance.

Observers say LUC Kamara’s early outreach to Baomahun signals a new chapter for the Bo West Division one marked by open communication, collaborative problem-solving, and a visible police presence in underserved areas.

The commander assured residents that his office remains open to suggestions, complaints, and partnership proposals. He further pledged regular community visits to keep the lines of engagement active and responsive.

As LUC Kamara settles into his role, his proactive leadership style is already generating optimism, with many locals hoping it will lead to safer streets, quicker response times, and a more secure Bo West.
